Space Invaders
The original version of Space Invaders was released in Japan by Taito in 1978 and was so popular that it resulted in a shortage of Japanese 100-yen coins since most of them had been put into the arcade machines! The game was exported all over the world and versions of the game have been released for most computers and video game consoles since its release. 

Asteroids
Asteroids was released by Atari in 1979. It used black and white vector graphics and is Atari's best selling game. In it, you have to control a ship which has somehow found itself in the middle of an asteroid field. Shooting the asteroids causes them to split into two smaller asteroids. Shooting them again causes them to split again. When they are small enough, they can be destroyed. Other targets include flying saucers.
